For years now the Sands at Nomad and the Nomad Beach Bar have used Re-purposed, old diving wet suits from The Crab diving centre.
Diving wet suits are made from a kind of rubber called Neoprene. It, like plastics is not organic so it cannot decompose so we try to keep it in the system until it has been used and reused completely. By doing this with all our various waste types we are reducing our impacts by utilising items in our circular economy.
Firstly old wet suits are removed from use at the Dive centre by the Dive Masters. These are handed onto Gabriel who cleans them, measures out the parts we want to reuse and then cuts them to size. These are then washed again.
The cut pieces are then sent for printing before coming back as logo printed drip-mats to catch the condensation which drips off ice cold cocktails and chilled glasses of wine.
